Family Wellness Schedule

 
All of our parenting classes teach the same information, but are modified depending on age. All classes teach the following: Styles of Parenting, Mutual Respect, Method of Choice, Punishment vs. Discipline (consequences), Handling Anger, How to Build Courage, Self-Esteem and Character in Children, and Encouragement. With the exception of Parenting Your Infant, the classes teach parents “I” messages and Natural & Logical Consequences.

Parenting Your Infant – This curriculum is for parents that are having a baby or have an infant child (0-12mos). This class will focus on how to care for your baby during pregnancy, ways to communicate with your infant, and the way children develop during infancy.

Active Parenting: 1 – 4 year olds (AP: 1 – 4) – This curriculum is for parents of 1 – 4 year olds that also focuses on: Child Development, Shaken Baby, Building the Bond, Handling Tantrums and much more.

Active Parenting Now (APN) – This curriculum is for parents of K - 4th graders. In addition to what is listed above, it also teaches: Who Owns the Problem?, Communication Blocks, Cooperation, Active Communication, What Children Need to Succeed, and the importance of talking to your child about Drugs, Sex and Violence.

Families in Action – This class is for parents of 5th graders and up. It has an additional component that is for teens. While the parents are in one room learning, the teens are in another room learning the same material, but it is modified to their understanding. Also during each lesson teens and parents meet together to discuss what they have learned and actually apply it during various activities.

This class focuses on the above information and also includes: Who Owns the Problem?, Communication Blocks, Cooperation, Active Communication, What Teens Need to Succeed, the importance of talking to your child about Drugs, Sex and Violence, and an extra lesson on the effects of drugs and alcohol.

Parenting your ADHD Child – Using the concepts from the Active Parenting curriculum, this group will address issues specific to families in which at least one child has ADD, with or without Hyperactivity.

Active Parenting Seminar (parents of 1 year olds – 4th graders)
(A combination of AP:1-4 + APN) We required the parents that attended this special class abide by very strict rules.

The class is the same as our 8-week classes (APN and AP: 1 – 4), but taught seminar style in order to serve clients who could not attend regular class sessions. The class is taught the same, and the workload is the same as an 8-week course. This class has very strict guidelines; each will be enforced. Seminar classes are not for everyone; they are intense, fast passed, and for more experienced students.
